WAKEFIELD, Mass.  – Jennifer Hitchcock (LaSalle, Ontario), a junior forward and tri-captain on the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s hockey team, was named TPS Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
Hitchcock scored three goals last weekend to propel UNH to victories against 10th-ranked Boston College (2-1) and previously unbeaten Boston University (4-0). With UNH trailing 1-0 late in the third period against BC, Hitchcock evened the score at 14:17 and netted the game-winning goal at 17:47. She also scored the last of the Wildcats’ four goals vs. BU, which marked her 100th career point and 49th career goal in her 81st career game.
In nine games this season, Hitchcock has tallied five goals and four assists for nine points to rank third on the team in goals and fourth in points. She also ranks third on the team in power-play goals (three) and has a game-winning goal (vs. BC) to her credit.
Hitchcock’s other collegiate accolades include RBK All-America Second Team and All-USCHO First Team, as well as NCAA All-Tournament Team and Hockey East First Team All-Star, in 2006.
This marks the third time this season that a Wildcat has received the TPS Player of the Week award. Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) was the recipient in consecutive weeks earlier this month.
UNH (9-0-0 overall, 3-0-0 Hockey East) returns to action Nov. 2 (7 p.m.) at 10th-ranked Boston College. The Wildcats return home Nov. 11-12 for a two-game series against fifth-ranked St. Lawerence University. Both games at the Whittemore Center begin at 2 p.m.
