BELLAMY NAMED TO U.S. SELECT TEAM
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), a sophomore defenseman on the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was one of 19 players named to the 2006 U.S. Women’s Select Team that will compete at the Four Nations Cup in Kitchener, Ontario, from Nov. 7-11, USA Hockey announced Thursday. UNH associate head coach Erin (Whitten) Hamlen was named an assistant coach to the Select Team in late September.
Bellamy was named to the Select Team, which will be her first international competition, for her strong showing at the 2006 U.S. National Women’s Festival from Aug. 15-22 in Lake Placid, N.Y. The remaining three roster spots on the U.S. Select Team will be filled by participants at Team USA’s upcoming training camp held the first week in November or from the August festival.
In four games for the Wildcats this season, Bellamy has four goals and one assist for five points as well as a plus/minus rating of +4 and leads the team with four power-play goals.
Bellamy has scored a career-high two goals – both on the power-play – in a game twice this season and was honord as USCHO Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 3. First, in the season-opening 5-0 victory against Niagara University on Sept. 29 and most recently in a 7-0 win vs. Bemidji State on Oct. 6.
Bellamy was named to the USCHO All-Rookie Team last season after ranking 13th in the nation among blueliners in points with 24 in 37 games.
The next game for Bellamy and the Wildcats (4-0-0) will be their Hockey East opener Oct. 14 at 12 p.m., when they travel north to take on the University of Maine.
