WAKEFIELD, Mass. Sam Faber (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), a sophomore forward on the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team, was named TPS Hockey Player of the Week by Hockey East for the second consecutive week, the league announced Monday.
    Faber recorded six points (three goals, three assists) at the Easton Shootout to lead the Wildcats to a sweep of WCHA opponents Bemidji State University (7-0) and third-ranked University of Minnesota (6-5 in overtime).
    The 2006 Hockey East Rookie of the Year finished with two goals and two assists, including one on the game-winning goal, as well as a +1 rating vs. Minnesota; the goal and point totals matched her single-game highs. Faber’s first goal tied the game, 1-1, in the first period and her second tally ignited UNH’s comeback; the ‘Cats trailed 3-1 when she scored at 7:04 of the middle stanza and then New Hampshire tied the score 43 seconds later before taking its first lead of the game with a third consecutive goal. In the opening game of the Easton Shootout, Faber recorded a goal and an assist and another +1 rating vs. BSU.
    In four games this season, Faber has five goals and four assists for nine points to rank as the team leader in both goals and points as well as tied for second in assists. In addition, Faber is second in shooting percentage at .455 (five goals/11shots) and is tied for fourth in plus/minus at +4.
    In 41 career games, Faber has recorded 60 points on 27 goals and 33 assists.
    New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 14 (12 p.m.) for its Hockey East league opener at the University of Maine. The next Wildcats’ home game is Oct. 20 vs. Brown University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m.
