WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Sophomore forward Leah Craig (Seaforth, Ontario) of the third-ranked University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team was honored by Hockey East as Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Craig received the same distinction Oct. 24.
Craig factored in all three of UNH's goals with two goals and an assist in the Wildcats' 3-0 victory at then-No. 9 Harvard University on Dec. 10. She gave the 'Cats a 1-0 lead with 19 seconds remaining in the first period, then struck again in the second period to extend the advantage to 2-0.
In 14 games this season, Craig has compiled 16 points on 12 goals and four assists as she leads the Wildcats in points, goals, power-play goals (six), game-winning goals (three) and shooting percentage (.267). Craig enters the week ranked No. 5 in the nation in goals per game (0.86), No. 2 in power-play goals and No. 9 in game-winning goals. Her other award this season was USCHO Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 25.
Craig's 12 goals this season matches that of last year's rookie season, when she finished with 28 points. In 49 career games, Craig has amassed 24 goals and 20 assists for 44 points.
New Hampshire (12-2-0 overall, 6-1-0 Hockey East) breaks for exams and the holiday season before resuming the 2005-06 season Jan. 1 (2 p.m.) at Dartmouth College. The next Wildcats' home game is Jan. 4 vs. Colgate University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m.
