UNH skaters selected to Preseason All-USCHO First Team

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Junior tri-captain Nicole Hekle (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and senior Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team were selected to the 2005-06 Preseason All-USCHO First Team, as announced Wednesday evening by U.S. College Hockey Online. UNH is the only team with two representatives on the First Team.

Hekle, the 2005 Hockey East Scoring Champion with 33 points in 20 league games, ranked No. 10 in the nation a year ago in assists (0.94 per game) and 16th in points (1.49 ppg). She led the Wildcats in assists (33), points (52), plus/minus (+22) and power-play goals (seven). Hekle's 19 goals ranked second on the team. In 71 career games, Hekle has 79 points on 31 goals and 48 assists.

McLaughlin, a defenseman, is a first-year Wildcat who earned All-ECAC First Team and All-Ivy First Team honors as a three-year letterwinner at Brown University. Last season, she led the Bears in plus/minus, tied for fourth in assists and was sixth in points. McLaughlin has compiled 19 goals and 48 assists for 67 points in 96 career games.

UNH (21-8-6 in 2005) is ranked No. 6 in the USCHO.com Poll and opens the season Oct. 15 at home vs. Hockey East rival Maine. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m.
