WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Jennifer Hitchcock (LaSalle, Ontario), a sophomore forward on the second-ranked University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.
It marks the second consecutive such honor for the Wildcats - Leah Craig (Seaforth, Ontario) received Player of the Week distinction from the conference Dec. 12 - and fourth time this season that a UNH skater was tabbed with the league's top weekly award.
Hitchcock recorded her third consecutive multiple-point game with two points (one goal, one assist) to lead UNH to a 4-1 victory at Dartmouth College on Jan. 1 that ended DC's five-game win streak in the series. Her eighth tally of the season gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at 10:57 of the first period and she set up the game's last goal, which gave the 'Cats a 4-1 advantage midway through the final stanza.
In 15 games this season, Hitchcock ranks second on the team in points (17) as well as third in both goals (eight) and assists (nine). In addition, she is tied for second in both power-play goals (four) and game-winning goals (two), and is second in shooting percentage (.163; eight goals/49 shots). Her four power-play tallies is tied for No. 17 in the nation.
Hitchcock has amassed 42 career points with 22 goals and 20 assists in 50 games.
New Hampshire (13-2-0 overall, 6-1-0 Hockey East) returns to action Jan. 4 at home against Colgate University. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7 p.m.
