WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Melissa Bourdon (Ile Bizard, Quebec), a freshman goaltender on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, was named ITECH Rookie of the Month by Hockey East for the month of March, the league announced Friday afternoon. Bourdon received the same honor in both November and January and was a five-time Rookie of the Week selection in the 2004 season.
Bourdon compiled a 3-1-0 record, 1.00 goals-against-average, .948 save percentage and two shutouts in four games during March. She recorded consecutive road shutouts vs. Northeastern University on the 13th to end the regular season and on the 20th in a Hockey East semifinal matchup as part of a shutout streak of 183 minutes, 49 seconds.
Bourdon completed her rookie season with an 18-6-2 record, 1.76 GAA, .922 save percentage and seven shutouts. She is sixth in the nation in GAA and winning percentage (.731) as well as 12th in save percentage, and her seven shutouts ranks No. 2 on UNH's list of single-season superlatives.
New Hampshire won the Hockey East regular-season title with a 17-1-2 league record. The Wildcats ended the season with a 23-9-3 record following a loss to Providence College in the league championship game.
