UNH's Paul named Hockey East Player of the Week

WAKEFIELD, Mass. -- Rebecca Paul (Sudbury, Ontario), a sophomore forward on the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team, was named TPS Hockey Player of the Week by Hockey East on Monday.

Paul recorded six points with three goals and three assists to propel UNH to a weekend sweep of Providence College that secured the Hockey East regular-season title for the Wildcats. Paul opened the weekend with a career-high three assists in the team's 7-4 road victory (Feb. 28), then recorded her first career hat trick - including a pair of third-period tallies that rallied UNH from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime - with three goals in Sunday's 4-3 overtime victory. Her weekend highlights also included her 50th career point, which came on the last of her three assists on Saturday.

For the season, Paul has 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points to rank third on the team in all three statistics. She ranks 22nd in the nation in assists (0.71 per game) as well as 29th in points (1.10 per game). Paul has a point in seven consecutive games with a total of 16 points on seven goals and nine assists.

Paul has 19 goals and 34 assists for 53 points in 62 career games. Last year she earned Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors as a member of the Northeastern University women's hockey team.

New Hampshire (19-8-4 overall, 14-1-2 Hockey East) returns to action March 4 (7 p.m.) at Boston College. The Wildcats play their final home game of the 2004 season March 6 vs. BC. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 2 p.m.
