WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Kristen Thomas (Wilmington, Mass.) and Lindsay Hansen (Northport, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team were honored by Women's Hockey East as the Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday.
Thomas recorded five points, all on assists, and a +7 rating in UNH's pair of victories (5-3, 10-0) at Quinnipiac University last weekend. She matched her career high in assists with three, including one on the game-winning goal, in the 5-3 win last Friday. Thomas finished with two assists and a +5 rating in the 10-0 victory.
Hansen, who also garnered top rookie honors Oct. 14, recorded two goals and an assist as well as a +5 rating in the two games vs. the Bobcats. She was credited with the primary assist on the game-winning goal in the 5-3 win. Hansen scored her first career goal to give UNH a 5-0 lead on Saturday (Oct. 26) and she finished with two goals and a +4 rating.
For the season, Thomas has recorded a point in all five games and leads the Wildcats in both assists (seven) and points (eight). Hansen is second on the team in points (six) and tied for third in assists (four).
New Hampshire, which is 5-0-0 under the guidance of first-year head coach Brian McCloskey, returns to action this weekend for a two-game home series against Maine at the Whittemore Center. Both games begin at 2 p.m. The Nov. 2 matchup, which is the Women's Hockey East opener for both teams, will be televised live by NHPTV.
