New Hampshire women's ice hockey defeats Assabet, 3-2

DURHAM, N.H. - Freshman forward Vicki Davis (Edmonton, Alb.) scored two goals, including the game-winner, to lead the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team to Sunday afternoon's 3-2 victory in an exhibition game against the Assabet Valley Midget Red at the Whittemore Center.

Davis scored the eventual game-winner on an unassisted goal at 13:16 of the third period when she maneuvered through the slot and shot the puck into the upper right corner of the net to lead the Wildcats to victory.

UNH took a 1-0 lead at 18:15 of the first period. The initial shot from the low slot by senior co-captain Annie Fahlenbock (Toronto, Ont.) was stopped by Assabet goaltender Brittany Busa, but Davis tucked the rebound into the net.

Assabet, which did not convert a 5-on-3 advantage that lasted for 1:23 midway through the second period, tied the game, 1-1, at 18:31 of the middle frame. Elizabeth Keady scored when she charged from the left circle and put a rebound into the open near side. Deborah Spillane and Helen Resor were credited with assists.

UNH regained the lead, 2-1, with 47 seconds remaining in the second period. Assabet goalie Christine Moynihan stopped the first shot from Janine Goulet (Gloucester, Ont.) but junior co-captain Kristen Thomas (Wilmington, Mass.) beat Moynihan on the rebound.

Assabet's Elizabeth Keady tallied her second goal of the game to pull the score even at two at 2:44 of the third period.

UNH senior goaltender Jen Huggon (Plymouth, N.H.) started and recorded 14 saves.

Busa made 22 saves in 32:29 before yielding to Moynihan, who stopped 22 shots in 27:31 of relief.
