CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Freshman defenseman Kristen Thomas (Wilmington, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team was named ECAC Rookie of the Week on Monday. She also received the honor on Oct. 30.
Thomas netted three goals over the weekend as the Wildcats swept a home-and-home series against Maine. She scored the game-winning goal in last Friday's 2-0 victory at the Whittemore Center when her slapshot on the powerplay gave the 'Cats a 1-0 lead at 19:04 of the first period.
Thomas scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season in UNH's 5-2 win at Alfond Arena on Sunday. She once again netted the first goal of the game, and it came on the powerplay at 19:10 of the first period. Thomas sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 47 seconds remaining in the game.
Thomas is second on the team in both goals (six) and points (nine). Those numbers rank her fourth in the ECAC in points and second in goals. She leads the conference with four powerplay goals. Thomas also potted the game-winning goal in the season opener at the University of Findlay and had a two-goal game against Ohio State.
New Hampshire plays a pair of home games this weekend against St. Lawrence (Nov. 17) and Cornell (Nov. 18). Both games at the Whittemore Center begin at 7 p.m.
