DURHAM, N.H.--Senior defenseman Jaime DeGriselles (Lakeville, Minn.) scored the game winning goal to lift the University of New Hampshire women’s ice hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the University of Minnesota-Duluth Sunday afternoon at the Whittemore Center.
At 13:16 of the third period, DeGriselles took a shot from the point that went past Bulldog goaltender Tuula Puputti for a 3-2 Wildcat lead. Senior forward Sabrina Monsen (Eagle River, Alaska) and Carisa Zaban (Glenview, Ill.) assisted on the game winner.
In the second period, freshman forward Annie Fahlenbock (Toronto, Ontario) tied the game at 2-2 at 11:52. Freshman defenseman Nicole Stefanilo (Sanford, Maine) assisted on the goal. At 4:32 with Minnesota-Duluth on the powerplay, Bulldog Hanne Sikio put in a wraparound shot to give them a 2-1 lead.
Bulldog Jenny Hempel tied the game at 1-1 at 17:32 of the first period with Minnesota-Duluth on the power play. Erika Holst and Navada Russell assisted on the power play goal. UNH got on the board at 15:22 when Zaban scored her 28th goal of the season to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0.
Freshman goaltender Jen Huggon (Plymouth, Mass.) made 30 saves for her 10th save. Puputti stopped 30 shots in a losing cause.
The Wildcats will travel to Princeton on Friday and Yale on Saturday. Princeton starts at 7 p.m. and Yale begins at 3 p.m.
