WOMENS BASKETBALL PROGRAM SELECTS CAPTAINS FOR 2009-10
DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire
women's basketball head coach Kristin Cole and her staff announced
that senior Candace Williams (Norfolk, Mass.),
sophomore Denise Beliveau (Framingham, Mass.) and
freshman Kelsey Hogan (Nashua, N.H.) have been
named tri-captains for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
"I am very excited about Candace, Denise and Kelsey being named
team captains," said Cole. "I feel very strongly that each of them
embody the true sense of the words leadership, commitment,
dedication and loyalty. I am confident they will lead this
team and help us to accomplish our goals."
Williams was selected to the America East All-Conference Second
Team last season, becoming only the tenth player in program history
to garner the honor. She averaged a team-high 16.1 points per game
and 8.1 rebounds per game last season, as one of just two players
in the conference to rank in the top three in both scoring and
rebounding. Williams led the Wildcats in scoring in 22 contests
last season, but her most impressive scoring outburst came against
Boston University when she drained a career-high 27 points on Jan.
17. She also tallied the second most free throws in a single
season in program history with 159, including a career-high 10
against Hartford on Feb. 4.
Beliveau, who sat out last season due to injury, played in 28 of
29 games as a freshman. She averaged 10 points per game and 6.2
rebounds per game, which topped the America East freshman
class. In addition to her superior scoring and rebounding
efforts, Beliveau also contributed defensively tallying a team-high
55 steals on the season.
As for Hogan, her season was also cut short due to injury, but was
still able to make an impact averaging 8 points per game, 3.3
rebounds per game and 3 assists per game in three contests. Her
most impressive performance came against Bryant on Nov. 14 when she
tallied a season-high 20 points and eight rebounds.
