WILLIAMS GARNERS AMERICA EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CAMBRIDGE, MASS.
- Candace Williams (Norfolk, Mass.), a junior forward on the University of New Hampshire women’s basketball team, was named America East Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Williams, who averaged a double-double this past week, led the Wildcats in wins over Stony Brook (Feb. 24) and Albany (Feb. 28).
Against the Seawolves, the forward tallied 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to earn her tenth double-double of the season. She also added a career-high three blocks in the game.
Williams, the America East Player of the Game, was crucial in the Wildcat’s second-half comeback as she posted 13 points during the final frame. The Wildcats held the Seawolves without a field goal during the final five minutes of action as Williams posted five straight points to make it a one-possession game (47-44) with 1:38 remaining to spark the Wildcat comeback. She also pulled down a defensive rebound on a missed free throw and fed the ball to Lauren Wells (West Chester, Pa.), who delivered the game-winning shot with just over two seconds remaining.
At Albany, Williams earned her fifth 20-plus point game with a team-high 22 points. The forward, who shot 8 of 13 from the floor, also pulled down eight rebounds in the game.
Williams once again led the Wildcats to a come-from-behind victory as she capped a 12-0 run with layup with six minutes to play, giving the Wildcats the lead. She went on to score eight points during the final six minutes of action to secure the victory for the Wildcats.
This is Williams’ second Player of the Week award this season as she received the honor on Dec. 15.
Williams and the rest of the Wildcats wrap-up the regular season this week as they host Binghamton on Wednesday, Mar. 4 before traveling to face Hartford on Saturday, Mar. 7.
