DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire men’s and women’s basketball teams celebrated the official start of the 2008-09 seasons with a tip-off event at Lundholm Gymnasium.

After performances by the UNH cheerleaders and the dance team, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams were introduced to an enthusiastic crowd of fans and students. Men’s basketball head coach Bill Herrion then addressed the crowd about the upcoming seasons.

Following the introductions, the men’s and women’s teams faced off in a series of shooting competitions, including a shot contest in which athletes and students joined forces. The event was then highlighted when a selected member of the UNH student body was chosen to participate in a contest with the possibility of her winning $10,000 towards her tuition. The men’s squad will open with an exhibition against WPI on Saturday, Nov. 8, while the women’s team will host Bentley on Sunday, Nov. 9. Both exhibition match ups are scheduled to tip off at 1 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium. The women’s team will begin the 2008-09 campaign by hosting Bryant on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., while the men will play host to Suffolk on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. For information on tickets CLICK HERE.
