BOSTON - Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) and Ray Williams (Mississauga, Ontario) of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team were honored by America East Conference Monday afternoon. Matthias was named the league's Co-Player of the Week along with Vermont's Aaron Yantzi, while Williams collected Co-Rookie of the Week honors along with Hartford's Ikea Witt.

Matthias, a 6-3 senior center, averaged 25.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game last week to open up the season. She started the season by netting 24 points in just 23 minutes of action in an 86-85 win over St. Bonaventure, going 10-14 from the floor and 4-4 from the free throw line. She followed that up by registering 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Wildcats nearly upset Georgetown, losing to the Hoyas by a 61-60 score. Matthias converted a pair of free throws with 8.6 seconds left to give UNH a 60-59 lead. Matthias' 25.5 ppg scoring average is currently second in NCAA Division I nationally.

Williams, a 6-0 forward, averaged 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest last week. In the season opener against St. Bonaventure Williams recorded 14 of her 16 points in the first half, going 7-9 from the floor for the game. She followed that up with 11 points, six rebounds, two blocks and two steals in UNH's game against Georgetown. For the week, Williams shot 80% from the field (12-15) and currently leads the conference in that statistic.

New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Quinnipiac for a 7:00 contest. The next Wildcat home game is December 11 when UNH entertains Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a 7:00 contest at Lundholm Gymnasium.
