DURHAM, N.H. - Fans of the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team will be able to get their first glimpse of the 2003-04 Wildcats Friday (November 7), when UNH hosts Austrian club team UBBC Herzogenburg. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium.
New Hampshire returns seven letterwinners from last season's team that finished in fourth place in America East and advanced to the conference semifinals for the second straight year. Among the returnees for the 'Cats are first team All-Conference center Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.), senior co-captain Sarah Rappoport (Herndon, Va.) and junior guard Lindsay Adams (Theresa, N.Y.). UNH has a total of 10 underclassmen on the roster, with six of them being freshmen.
UBBC Herzogenburg, in the midst of a eight-game United States tour, competes in Austria's top league. It has finished in the league's top four every year since 1994 and captured the 1996 Austrian championship. Last season Herzogenburg finished third in the Austrian Women's Basketball League.
The Wildcats host a second exhibition on November 20 against the Springfield Spirit before opening the 2003-04 regular season November 25 at home against St. Bonaventure.
