NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Senior guard Heidi Plencner (Hampton, N.H.) scored 19 points and UNH hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to roll to a 63-46 victory against Iona College Wednesday night at Mulcahy Center.
Plencner was 8 of 12 from the field, including 3 of 4 from beind the arc in recrding a season-high. She hit for 13 of her points, including all her threes, in the first half as UNH (3-4) took a 39-19 halftime lead and never looked back. Anna Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) scored 12 points while Colleen Mullen (Chelmsford, Mass.) had nine points on three 3-pointers. Megan Cobb had a team-high 10 points for Iona (0-6).
The Wildcats opened the contest on a 10-0 run keyed by a three from Mullen and another by freshman Lindsay Adams (Theresa, N.Y.). Anna Mattias' layup just before the halftime buzzer gave the 'Cats their largest lead (20 points) at the half. The Gaels got no closer than 17 points in the second half.
UNH returns to action Saturday (12/8) at Providence. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
