DURHAM, N.H. - Danielle Leyfert and Christina Rible each had 15 points to lead the University of Delaware women's basketball team to a 71-55 win over the University of New Hampshire in action here at the Whittemore Center this evening.

Delaware was the preseason pick to win the America East conference in the preseason coaches' poll.

Junior Anna Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) led New Hampshire (2-5, 0-1 America East) with 15 points and five rebounds. Kelly Donohue (Rochester, N.H.) had 11 points and six rebounds, while Taylore Jarvis (Nazareth, Pa.) tied her career-high of 10 points. Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) had a career-high nine rebounds.

UNH jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but Delaware (6-3, 3-0) would tie the game at eight on a Leyfert layup with 15:41 in the first half. The two teams traded baskets before the Fightin' Blue Hens went on a 16-4 run to take a 28-16 lead with 6:40 remaining in the first half. Delaware would increase its lead to 39-25 at the half.

The 'Cats gradually clawed their way back in the second half, pulling to within four (49-45) when Anna Matthias hit a pair of free throws with 10:12 remaining in the contest. The Hens started to rebuild their lead, and went up 61-48 with 3:54 remaining on a Carrie Timmins three-pointer. UNH would cut the lead to 65-55 with 2:55 remaining on a Maren Matthias layup but would get no closer as the 'Cats were forced to foul late.

New Hampshire returns to action on Sunday (12/10) when it hosts Towson in an America East matchup. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 1:00 p.m.
