CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to Harvard University 54-45 here at Lavities Pavilion this evening. With the loss, UNH now stands at 2-2, while the Crimson improve to 1-3.

Junior Heidi Plencner (Hampton, N.H.) led the 'Cats with 15 points, including going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Anna Matthias (Guilford, Conn.) was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 13. Hana Peltjo led Harvard with 17.

The first half was a defensive struggle most of the way. UNH held a 17-16 lead after a Taylore Jarvis (Nazareth, Pa.) basket with 4:02 in the half. The Crimson would then go on a 10-0 run to take a 26-17 lead. Kiki Proctor (Harrisburg, Pa.) hit a pair of free throws with no time remaining in the first half to cut the Harvard lead to seven at the break.

The 'Cats fell behind by 13 with just under 16 minutes remaining. UNH then went on a 7-0 run capped by a Plencner trey to cut the lead to 34-28 with 13:19 remaining. The two teams would trade baskets. UNH got to within two, 40-38, on a three-point play by Matthias with 5:27 remaining.

The game remained tight but the Crimson pulled out to a 48-42 lead late. Plencner would then get fouled on a three-point attempt with 1:06 remaining and sink all three free throws. On the ensuing possession, Harvardís Peltjo would make a layup with 39.1 seconds on the clock to push the lead to five. After a Wildcat miss UNH was forced to foul the rest of the way, with Harvard sinking four free throws down the stretch to ice it.

New Hampshire travels to Ann Arbor, Mich. Friday night (12/1) to face the University of Michigan Wolverines. Game time at Crisler Arena is 7 p.m.
