PROVIDENCE, RI -- The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team never trailed in Tuesday night's 57-45 victory again Brown University at the Pizzitola Sports Center. UNH improved to 7-8 overall while Brown lost its fifth straight to fall to 5-11.
UNH's Aubrey Danen (Oconomowoc, Wisc.) netted the game's first points and Brown registered the only tie of the game on the next possession. A layup by Danen ignited an 8-1 run to give the 'Cats a 10-3 advantage. Brown closed within three points, but Heidi Plencner (Hampton, N.H.) scored six points to key a 12-2 spurt that extended New Hampshire's lead to 22-9 with 6:37 to play in the half.
BU, which committed 14 first-half turnovers and shot 6-for-23 from the floor, closed within 27-17 at halftime.
Kelly Donohue (Rochester, NH) scored 10 points in UNH's 14-5 run to build a 21-point cushion, 43-22, with 11:19 remaining. The Bears outscored their guests 11-2 over the next 3:30 to pull within 45-33, but back-to-back baskets by Danen and Donohue quelled the rally. UNH's lead was cut to 51-41 with 2:50 to go but was never trimmed to single digits.
Donohue netted all of her game-high 16 points in the second half. Orsi Farkas (Budapest, Hungary) contributed eight points and nine rebounds. Brown was led offensively by Barbara Maloni (11).
UNH returns to action Jan. 21 (7 p.m.) at Hofstra University. The Wildcats also play at Drexel University on Jan. 23(1 p.m.) before returning home to play Towson University on Jan. 27. Game time at Lundholm Gymnasium is 7 p.m.
