MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY FALLS TO PROVIDENCE IN OPENER

DURHAM, N.H. - Senior Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) finished fifth, but the University of New Hampshire men's cross country team lost a dual meet to Providence College on Sunday morning at the College Woods course in its first race of 2009.

Providence finished with 16 points, while the Wildcats checked in with 41.

Dinnan finished the five-mile course in 25 minutes, 15.00 seconds, just eight seconds behind winner Hayden McLaren.

Senior Josh Kearns (Ridgefield, Conn.) and graduate student Nick Decrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in times of 25:30.00 and 25:34.00. Grad student Ben Jenkins (Francestown, N.H.) rounded out the top 10 with a 10th-place finish in 25:49.00. Senior Mark Ouellette (Hopkinton, N.H.) and sophomore Dan Decrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in times of 26:02.00 and 26:04.00.

The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Sept. 13 at noon when they take part in the America East Pre-Championship meet at the University of Vermont.
