ORONO, MAINE – Junior co-captain Jordan Horowitz (Evanston, Ill) finished second overall with a time of 24 minutes, 34 seconds to help lead the University of New Hampshire Wildcats to its fourth America East Championship in the past six seasons on Saturday in Orono, Maine.
Behind a conference-best five top-20 finishers, the UNH men (58 points) narrowly outpaced Stony Brook University (61), host University of Maine (62) and Boston U. (70). University of Vermont (154), defending-champion UMBC (175) and University at Albany (178) finished fifth through seventh, respectively, while Binghamton University (183) and University of Hartford (269) rounded out the nine-team field.
Horowitz was the only Wildcat harrier to be honored as an America East All-Conference member. A pack of Wildcats provided plenty of scoring just outside of the top ten as graduate student Matthew Russell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) raced to an 11th place effort (25:17), while teammate Benjamin Jenkins (25:21) notched a 12th place finish. Junior David Nayes (Eden Prairie, Minn.) ran a spectacular race (25:29) to finish 16th overall and classmate Benjamin Danton (New Milford, Conn.) cruised to a 17th place finish (25:31) to round out the ‘Cats in the top 20. The Wildcats recorded eight runners in the top 30 places on the afternoon.
UNH will have an open week before they begin to prepare for the NCAA Regional Qualifier in New York, New York on Saturday (Nov. 11). The race starts at 11:00 a.m. on the course of Van Cortland Park.
