BOSTON -- Matt Russell (Ogdensburg, N.Y.), a senior on the University of New Hampshire men's cross country team, was named Performer of the Week by America East on Tuesday.
Russell ran the 8K course of the R.K. Munsey Men's Championship Race in 24 minutes, 59.4 seconds to earn fifth place in a field of 220 runners and lead UNH to a first-place finish at the 39th Annual Albany Invitational, which was held Oct. 15.
Russell was the first of three Wildcat runners in the top 20 and UNH recorded 99 points to easily defeat runner-up New York University, which finished with 128 points in the 27-team field.
Earlier this season, Russell was the second 'Cat to cross the finish line at both the Binghamton Invitational and the Murray Keatinge Invitational (at Maine).
New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 29 at the America East Championship, which is at Binghamton University.
