Men's Track & Field Competes at UMass Pre-Conference Tournament

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire men's track & field team competed at the UMass Pre-Conference meet Saturday. The Wildcats finished seventh with an overall team score of 71.50. Northeastern finished on top tallying 140 overall points. 

The 4x400m relay squad of Christopher DeCarlo (Derry, N.H.), Andrew Albin (Bethel, Conn.), Steven Souza (Fall River, Mass.) and Seth Sheridan (Ashburnham, Mass.) ran to victory at UMass with a winning time of 3:23.27. Kent Harlow (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) finished as runner-up in the 5,000m at UMass with a time of 15:21.91 while Jason Guarente (Saugus, Mass.) took second place in the high jump with a cleared height of 1.96 meters and Jessie Swink (Groton, Conn.) placed second in the javelin at 55.76m. Chris Dupuis (Plaistow, N.H.) placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.13m and recorded the fifth-longest throw in the shot put with a mark of 14.62m. Souza placed fourth in the 800m at UMass by crossing the finish line in 1:54.90. Jeffrey Moretti (Guilford, Conn.) recorded a fourth-place effort in the 1,500m with a time of 4:01.67. Jake Renaud (Lancaster, N.H.) placed fifth in the hammer throw with a top effort of 46.38m. DeCarlo raced to sixth place in the 200m dash at UMass with a time of 22.76 seconds.

New Hampshire will hit the road to travel to Vestal, N.Y., for the America East Championships, held at Binghamton University. The two-day competition will start May 4 at 9 a.m.
