Men's Track and Field Finishes Ninth at New England Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Graduate student Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.) claimed a first-place finish in the hammer throw as the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team finished ninth at the New England Championships over the weekend at Southern Connecticut State University's Jess Dow Field.

The Wildcats totaled 34 points in the three-day competition while host Southern Connecticut State came in first with 110 points.  

One year after taking second in the event, DeTurk was victorious in the hammer throw on Friday with a toss of 60.91m.

Senior Mike Simon (Durham, Conn.), fresh off a fourth-straight conference title in the javelin at last weekend's America East Championships, placed third in the event on day two with a mark of 59.51m.

Sophomore Matthew Guarente (Saugus, Mass.), who claimed a title in the high jump at the conference championships, took fourth in the event on day three with a mark of 2.00m.

Graduate student Tyler Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) finished fourth in the 1,500m in a time of 3:50.86.

Junior Max Hoddwells (Wayne, Maine) placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.07m.

On day two, junior Daniel DeCrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) placed sixth in the 5,000m, crossing the finish line in a time of 14:58.42.

The Wildcats' 4x800m relay team placed seventh in a time of 7:47.26.

The Wildcats return to action at the NCAA East Regionals on May 27-28.
