Track and Field's Simon Earns Weekly Conference Honor

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second time this outdoor season, senior Mike Simon (Durham, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team was named the America East Field Performer of the Week, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.

This distinction marks the third time this season a New Hampshire men's outdoor track & field member has received weekly accolades, as graduate student Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.) also took home Field Performer of the Week honors earlier in the spring.

Simon, the reigning America East champion in the javelin, won the event last week at the prestigious Penn Relays. Simon placed first in the 31-thrower field of the College Division of the javelin with a toss of 64.50 meters. Simon, who qualified for the IC4A Championships and NCAA Championships, earned his second performer of the week honor of the spring with his America East season-best throw at the Penn Relays.

The Wildcats return to action on May 7-8 for the America East Championships.
