CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After another solid performance over the weekend, senior Mike Simon (Durham, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team was named the America East Field Performer of the Week, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
This distinction marks the second time this season a New Hampshire men's outdoor track & field member has received weekly accolades, as graduate student Paul DeTurk (Durham, N.H.) also took home Field Performer of the Week honors earlier in the spring.
Simon, the reigning America East champion in the javelin, placed first out of 17 competitors in the event on Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational II. The senior reached a mark of 64.19 meters, a distance that would have won the 2010 America East crown. The win was the second straight in the javelin for Simon after he claimed first in the event at the Wildcat Invitational I.
The Wildcats return to action on April 20-21 at the Holy Cross Heptathlon.
