BOSTON - Graduate student Jeff Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.) and sophomore Sean Mitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each won individual titles to lead the University of New Hampshire men's indoor track & field team to a third-place finish at the 34-team New England Championships on Feb. 26-27 at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center.
With 60 points, the Wildcats trailed only the University of Connecticut (140) and the University of Rhode Island (69).

Kaste won the weight throw with a toss of 60 feet, 0.50 inches. Kaste was also seventh in the shot put with a throw of 51-7, while junior Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) was second at 56-4.75.

Mitchell was first in the 500 meters in a time of one minute, 3.39 seconds. Classmate Bill Godfrey (Merrimack, N.H.) was eight-hundredths of a second behind to claim the runner-up spot.

Sophomore Renrick Pesce (New Hartford, Conn.) placed second in the heptathlon with 4,624 points, just 13 points behind the winner.

Grad student Matthew O'Connor (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) finished third in the mile in a time of 4:09.19.

Senior Wesley Dinnan (Juneau, Alaska) placed fifth in the 3000 meters as he crossed the finish line at 8:23.85.

Freshman Garrett Finn (Lebanon, N.H.) finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 45-4.25.

The Wildcats' distance medley team of freshmen Corey Duchemin (Manchester, N.H.) and Nick Aubut (Goffstown, N.H.), Godfrey and freshman Cory Sinotte (Hooksett, N.H.) placed eighth in a time of 10:04.79.

The Wildcats return to action March 6-7 at the IC4A Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
