GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Laura Stern (Shirley, Mass.) turned in the top Wildcat finish of the weekend to lead the University of New Hampshire outdoor track & field team at the NCAA East Regional at North Carolina State A&T’s Aggie Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
Stern finished seventh in the javelin with a throw of 46.04 meters Saturday. Because she finished in the top 12, Stern has a chance to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA National Championships, which are being held June 10 at the University of Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field.
Junior Ashlee Lathrop (Sherburne, N.Y.) was the next highest UNH finisher, placing 15th in the hammer throw Friday with a toss of 48.83 meters.
The top men’s finisher for the Wildcats was senior Jeff Kaste (Atkinson, N.H.), who finished off his career with a 16th-place showing and a mark of 55.54 meters in the hammer throw on the second day. Fellow senior Reed Liset (Dover, N.H.) placed 24th in the event with a throw of 52.62 meters.
Sophomore Brice Paey (Milton, N.H.) placed 18th in the shot put with a throw of 16.79 meters on day one.
Classmate Michael Simon (Durham, Conn.) finished 25th in the javelin with a throw of 55.00 meters on the first day.
Another sophomore, Sydney Fitzpatrick (Billerica, Mass.), placed 35th in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase on day two in a time of 11 minutes, 13.83 seconds.
