MEN'S SOCCER EARNS NO. 7 RANKING FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK
MISSION, Kan. – For the second straight week the National Soccer Coaches Association honored the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team with a No. 7 ranking in the NSCAA/adidas Northeast Regional Poll.

The Wildcats, who remain undefeated this season with a 3-0-1 record, preserved their No. 7 standing with an impressive 1-0 overtime victory over non-conference Memphis on Sept. 5. In the match, Chris Banks (Westborough, Mass.) nailed the game-winning goal just 57 seconds into overtime to propel the Wildcats to their third victory of the season in the opening game of the 2008 Smith Barney Classic.

New Hampshire carried its success further into weekend with a 1-1 tie against LaSalle on Sept. 7. The late goal by freshman Sean Coleman (Stratham, N.H.) preserved the Wildcats’ undefeated season and gave them a share of the 2008 Smith Barney Classic title.

With the win the Wildcats earned their second straight tournament title in as many weeks as they also won the 19th Annual Nike Fall Classic on Aug. 31.

The Wildcats return to action Sept. 12 against Hartwick at 4 p.m. for the opening match of the Bucknell Invitational at Varsity Soccer Field. The second game of the tournament will take place on Sept. 14 as New Hampshire takes on Cornell to wrap up the weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
