DURHAM, N.H.- Kyle Urso (Lombard, Ill.), a senior on the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team, was selected as the America East Co-Player of the week as announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats, who rank seventh in the Northeast (NSCAA/adidas Coaches’ Poll), opened up the 2008 season with back-to-back wins while hosting the 19th Annual Nike Fall Classic.

Urso, who was selected as the MVP of the Fall Classic, recorded two game-winning goals in consecutive games and earned an assist for five points on the weekend.

The forward propelled the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory against Adelphi with a goal 36 minutes into the 2008 campaign. Freshman Brad Hilton (Merrimack, N.H.) passed the ball, from a crowded right side, to A.J. DuBois (Acworth, N.H.) at the top of the box. A quick pass from DuBois to Urso on the left side allowed for an uncontested shot on goal, as the Panther’s defense and goalkeeper scrambled to get back into position.

In the Wildcats’ game against Rhode Island, Urso earned his second goal of the season when he connected on a free kick from 43 yards out. Urso’s goal, as well as his assist on Chris Banks’ (Westborough, Mass.) goal with 47 seconds left in the game, solidified the victory, 2-0, for the Wildcats.

Urso and the rest of Wildcats return to action Friday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Burlington, Vt., to take part in the 2008 Smith Barney Classic. New Hampshire will face Memphis on Friday afternoon and LaSalle on Sunday, Sept. 7.
