The University of New Hampshire men’s soccer head coach Rob Thompson has announced the 2007 upcoming fall schedule. The schedule is highlighted by the 18th annual UNH Nike Fall Soccer Classic, in which UNH will host a four-team showdown.
The Wildcats will play Rhode Island and Providence in preseason exhibition games before traveling to the Nike Portland Invitational to open up the season. At the Invitational New Hampshire will face Portland and Washington. Continuing on the road, the Wildcats will take part in the Smith Barney Classic at host school Vermont. UNH will play Michigan St. and Massachusetts in the tournament. The Wildcats defeated the Minutemen last season, by a score of 1-0.
In the home opener the Wildcats will face Central Connecticut and Sacred Heart, as part of the 18th annual UNH Nike Fall Soccer Classic. The Wildcats then travel to Colgate, followed by a two game home-stand before opening up America East action.
The Wildcats travel to Maine to play the Black Bears in the first conference game of the season. New Hampshire will face Vermont in the America East home opener. The Wildcats travel to Albany then return home to face Stony Brook, who the Wildcats defeated, 4-0, in the first round of the America East tournament last season.
New Hampshire will take a break from conference action and travel to face ACC opponent Virginia Tech. The Wildcats resume America East play when they host Binghamton. The game will be played under the lights on Bremner Field. The Wildcats will celebrate senior day against Hartford on October 28.
New Hampshire concludes the regular season on that road at Boston University followed by a game at UMBC. The Wildcats defeated both the Terriers and the Retrievers last season.
Last season the Wildcats posted a 12-5-3 record, including 6-2-1 in America East, its best mark since 1994. The Wildcats look to make back-to-back appearances in the conference tournament, which is set to begin November 10.
