DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team will prepare for the 2003 season by taking an 11-day, 10-night trip to Europe from August 14-25. The Wildcats will stay in Holland for the trip and play matches against clubs from Holland, Belgium and Germany.




DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire head men's soccer coach Rob Thompson announced Tuesday that three more student-athletes have enrolled at UNH and will join the Wildcat soccer program in the fall. The three are Ross Fishbain (Racine, Wis.), Mike Jenne (Vernon, N.Y.) and Geoff Sanford (Johnson City, N.Y.)

The Wildcats celebrated a season in which they won 10 games for the first time since 1995, were ranked as high as fifth in New England, and made their second-straight trip to the America East tournament, finishing with a final record of 10-5-2.




DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire head men's soccer coach Rob Thompson announced Tuesday that Pedro Braz (East Providence, R.I.) has signed a national letter-of-intent to enroll at UNH and join the men's soccer program in the fall of 2003. Braz is the fourth player to sign with the Wildcats this spring.




DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire men's soccer coach Rob Thompson announced Wednesday the Wildcats' spring exhibition schedule that includes five dates at Bremner Field, the UNH athletic department's new AstroPlay synthetic grass facility located behind the Field House.




DURHAM, N.H. - Soccer Dimensions will host its annual residential camp for boys ages 9-18 from August 3-7, 2003 at the University of New Hampshire campus in Durham. The cost of the camp is $455 and campers are encouraged to sign up early as last year's camp was a sellout.




DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer program will be hosting an 8 vs. 8 Spring Invitational over two weekends in March. The tourney will be held at UNH's Bremner Field, the newly installed AstroPlay field located behind the Field House.

DURHAM, N.H. - Christian Pauckstadt (Wuppertal, Germany) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team was named to the 2002 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Men's College Soccer All-East Team as an Honorable Mention selection announced recently. A senior defender, Pauckstadt is a business administration major at UNH.




DURHAM, N.H. - Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team was named to the 2002 College Soccer News Honorable Mention All-America list announced recently. Hankard is a junior defender for the Wildcats.




DURHAM, N.H. - Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New England First Team announced recently. Hankard was a Third Team selection in 2001.




BROOKLINE, Mass. - Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Eric Masi (York, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team were named to the America East Men's Soccer Championship All-Tournament team that was announced at the conclusion of the tournament's championship game that top-seeded Northeastern won 2-1 over Vermont Sunday. The Wildcats reached the America East tournament for the second straight season in 2002.




America East Offensive Player of the Year Atha Kirkopoulos scored in the 60th minute to break a 1-1 tie and lead top-seeded Northeastern to a 3-1 win over fourth-seeded New Hampshire in the America East Men's Soccer Championship semifinals at Parsons Field. Kirkopoulos took a cross from Michael Cipriano and beat Wildcat goalkeeper Mike Vignola with a low shot to the far post from 10 yards out. It was the eighth goal of the season for Kirkopoulos.

The fifth-place ranking matches the Wildcats highest rank in the poll this season.

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire will play host to one of the top men's collegiate soccer tournaments in the Northeast as the 13th annual Nike Fall Soccer Classic takes place this weekend. The tourney kicks off Friday (August 30) with Adelphi facing Vermont at 2 p.m. and UNH taking on the Leopards of Lafayette at 4:30. Sunday, September 1, the Catamounts take on Lafayette at 12:30 p.m. while the Wildcats face Adelphi in the tournament finale at 3. The tournament is scheduled to be played at Cowell Stadium. Admission each day is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12.




BOSTON - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team was picked to finish fourth out of nine schools in America East in the preseason coaches' poll released Monday. Boston University was picked as the preseason favorite by the coaches, garnering seven of nine first-place votes.

Verni takes over the role of top assistant held for the past three years by Kevin Korondi, who recently accepted a position on the coaching staff at Virginia Tech.
