VESTAL, N.Y. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team was defeated by Binghamton 3-1 Sunday afternoon. The match was the America East opener for both schools and was also the first-ever meeting between the two. Binghamton moves to 3-4-1, while UNH saw a two game winning streak snapped and falls to 6-3-0.

Junior Nicola Chicco (Claymont, Del.) would net UNH's only goal at the 86:38 mark. Chicco took a feed from classmate Ben Utter (Arlington, Mass.) and beat Bearcat keeper Ian Wendel (5 saves). The goal was Chicco's sixth of the season and he now leads the squad with 14 points.

The Bearcats broke open the contest by scoring three first half goals to take a 3-0 lead at the break. Stephen Bruce would score just 51 seconds into the match, while a Pat Skinner goal in the 36th minute made it 2-0. Michael Austin would net a goal for BU on a scramble in front of the Wildcat net with 17 seconds remaining in the first half to give the Bearcats a three-goal advantage.

Mike Vignola (Hudson, N.H.) made four saves in net for the Wildcats. Both teams registered 13 shots for the contest.

New Hampshire plays at home for the first time in over a month when the 'Cats host America East rival Northeastern in a 2 p.m. game at Lewis Field on Saturday (Oct. 5). UNH will be looking to extend a five-game home winning streak and eight-game home unbeaten streak that dates back to last season.
