MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO ONEONTA STATE 2-0

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team opened the season Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Oneonta State College in the first round of the Nike Fall Soccer Classic at Lewis Field. The game was also the season opener for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta (1-0-0) got on the board just over six minutes in when junior Ryan Rummery (Biggin Hill, England) booted a grounder from the center of the box that beat UNH keeper Shaun O'Neil (Wrentham, Mass.) Rummery would make it 2-0 at the 15:39 mark when he deflected a high arcing pass from Ben Swann (Midlothian, Va.) into the back of the net.

The Red Dragons had two chances to pad their lead late, but two headers from close range deflected off the crossbar.

O'Neil finished with two saves for New Hampshire (0-1-0), while Jack Potter (Liverpool, England) stopped three Wildcat shots.

The 12th Annual Nike Fall Soccer Classic concludes tomorrow (9/3). Oneonta will face Vermont at 12:30, while UNH faces Hartwick in the tourney finale at 3 p.m. Hartwick was a 2-0 winner over Vermont in the tournament's opening game.
