DURHAM, N.H. - Junior midfielder Andy Karam (Schenectady, N.Y.) and freshman back Brendan Hankard (Glastonbury, Conn.), both members of the University of New Hampshire men’s soccer team, were honored by America East yesterday. Karam was named to the All-Conference Second Team, while Hankard was named to the all-Rookie team.
Karam started all 16 games for the Wildcats this season and led the squad in scoring with 13 points. He recorded two game-winning goals on the year and was named America East Player of the Week on October 2 after notching two goals and an assist in a 3-0 victory over Maine. Karam ranks fourth on the all-time assist list at UNH with 1 6.
Hankard was a solid defender for the Wildcats all season. He was the only first-year player to start all 16 games for New Hampshire this season and one of six first-year players to record at least one point. Hankard was also named to the All-Tournament Team of the Nike Fall Soccer Classic which was hosted by UNH.
In other conference honors, Alfonso DeMares of Towson was named Player of the Year, Vermont’s Nick Azarian Was named Rookie of the Year and Northeastern’s Ed Matz and Vermont’s Roy Patton were named co-Coaches of the Year.
