ORONO, Maine -- Adam Purcell had five goals to lead the Wildcats past the University of Maine men’s soccer team, 6-2, in conference action at Alumni Field. Drew Ferrigno and Jay Heimgartner each had two assists for New Hampshire.
Purcell tallied an unassisted goal and added a header from Ferrigno to put UNH up 2-0. Aaron Benjamin got a goal on an assist from Ricky Brown and Brown scored from Mike Manfre to tie the game up in the first half.
Purcell notched the game-winner less than five minutes into the second on an assist from Doug Lawver. Zach Zeldner scored on an assist from Heimgartner and Ferrigno. Purcell would add goals on assists from Heimgartner and Corey Brown to round out the scoring.
Purcell’s five goals tie UNH’s single game goal record set in 1965 and set him atop the list for most goals in a season, breaking a 1968 record of 17. He now has 21 goals this season.
Maine falls to 2-11-2 overall with the loss, with a 1-7-1 record in America East. New Hampshire improves to 6-11-1 overall, 2-6-1 in America East competition.
