Liz Guiney Named NCAA Skiing's Elite 89 Winner
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – University of New Hampshire senior women's Nordic skier Liz Guiney (Park City, Utah) was named the winner of the National College Men's and Women's Skiing Elite 89 award, which recognized her for reaching the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in Division I skiing while also achieving the highest academic standard among her peers. Guiney was honored at Tuesday night's NCAA Skiing Championships awards banquet.
The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at each of the NCAA's 89 championships. Guiney was feted for compiling a cumulative GPA of 3.988 in genetics.
Fifteen members of the UNH skiing team were named to the 2013 National Ski Coaches Association All-Academic Team. The team features individuals who earned a grade point average of 3.5 or above during the Fall 2012 semester and competed at the EISA Championships.
Guiney and men's Nordic captain Erik Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden), a physics major, notched perfect 4.0 GPAs to earn a spot on the NSCA All-Academic Team for the fourth straight season. Nordic skiers Annika Taylor (Truckee, Calif.), Per Lindgren (Pitea, Sweden) and Will Meyer (Bozeman, Mont.) also logged perfect 4.0 GPAs during the fall term.

The 2013 NCAA Skiing Championships, hosted by Middlebury College, will be held March 6-9 with alpine racing at the Middlebury Snow Bowl and Nordic racing at the Rikert Nordic Center.
