BLANK HIRED AS ALPINE HEAD COACH
DURHAM, N.H.  – Cory Schwartz, the 22nd-year ski coordinator at the University of New Hampshire, has announced that Brian Blank has been hired as the University’s alpine head coach, effective immediately.

“I am excited to have Brian join the staff and to lead the alpine team,” Schwartz said. “Under previous alpine head coach Kurt Simard, UNH’s alpine team has become one of the top squads in the country and Brian has the tools to continue those results. Being an alumnus, Brian knows what the team means to the University and to the state of New Hampshire.”

Blank, a 1995 graduate of UNH who has over 10 years of experience as an alpine ski racing coach as well as 15 years experience as an alpine ski racer, lettered on the UNH ski team from 1991-95 and served as team captain in 1994-95.

"I am very happy to be returning to UNH,” Blank said. “My experience there as a student-athlete was extremely positive and memorable. To be the head alpine coach there is a great opportunity. I look forward to building on the success of Kurt and to be working with Cory."

Blank has trained high-level athletes as the men’s FIS coach at Stratton Mountain School since 2001 His responsibilities at that institution included: creation and implementation of dry-land programs; organizing fall camps in Colorado, California and Canada; and coaching at SMS camps in Switzerland and Austria. Prior to that position, Blank worked at Rowmark Ski Academy (1998-2000) and with the Brighton Ski Team (1995-98). Through the years, his pupils have included U.S. Ski Team members Greg Hardy and Keely Kelleher.

“With the addition of Brian to our ski program we are confident that we’ll continue to be nationally competitive, and the best years for our ski program are ahead of us,” said Steve Metcalf, a Senior Associate Athletic Director at UNH.

Blank joins a UNH ski program that finished 11th at the 2007 NCAA Skiing Championships in which the Wildcats sent a complete allotment of six alpine skiers who earned three All-America Team honors.
