DURHAM, N.H. – Head coach Dick Umile of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team announced Friday the schedule for the 2014-15 season. The Wildcats host St. Francis Xavier (Sat. - Oct. 4) in an exhibition contest before opening the season at Union College, the defending Division I national champions, on Friday, Oct. 11.
UNH remains on the road to take on Michigan in a weekend series at Yost Arena (Oct. 17-18) before returning to Wildcat Country for the home opener against Colorado College (Oct. 25). The team starts Hockey East play the following weekend with a home-and-home series against UMass Lowell (Oct. 31-Nov. 1), with Friday's game being played at the Whittemore Center and Saturday's at the Tsongas Center.
On Nov. 7, the Wildcats open a three-game home stint starting with a pair of games against Michigan State (Nov. 7-8). It will be the first time the two teams have met since the Spartans edged UNH, 1-0, in the NCAA East Regional semifinal on March 25, 2006. The Wildcats are home the following Friday (Nov. 14) and on the road the next day for a home-and-home series with Northeastern. New Hampshire closes out the month with three home games, two against Providence (Nov. 21-22) and one against RPI (Nov. 25).
New Hampshire opens the month of December with a home contest against Boston College (Dec. 5) before traveling to Conte Forum the following night. On Friday, Dec. 12, the Wildcats will battle the University of Maine at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. On Saturday, the two teams travel to the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine for a rematch. The two contests will not count as conference games. UNH closes out 2014 with a pair of games at Nebraska-Omaha (Dec. 30-31).
The New Year kicks off with a home tilt against intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Friday, Jan. 9, for the last non-conference game of the season. Hockey East play resumes the following weekend (Jan. 16-17) with a home-and-home series against UMass. Friday's game is on the road while Saturday's is at home. The Wildcats wrap up play with Maine in another home-and-home series. Friday, Jan. 23 will be played at Maine while Saturday's tilt is at the Whittemore Center.
UNH hits the road for the next five games, starting with a pair of contests at the University of Notre Dame (Jan. 30-31). The Wildcats start February at the University of Vermont for two games (Feb. 6-7) before traveling to Boston University on Feb. 13. The following night, New Hampshire returns home to host BU. The last road game of the regular season takes place on Friday, Feb. 20 at the University of Connecticut, Hockey East's latest newcomer. On Saturday, the Huskies travel to Wildcat Country for the first time since Nov. 30, 2002 (3-1 UNH win). New Hampshire concludes the regular season with a pair of home games against Merrimack College (Feb. 27-28), with Saturday's regular-season finale being Senior Night.
The athletic department is excited to announce renewals of men's hockey season tickets for the 2014-15 season begin 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16th. An email will be sent to current season ticket holders before the start of renewals directing them to pay their invoice online and alerting them of new special pricing options they may qualify for.
NEW special pricing starting at only $145 is available this year for UNH faculty/staff members, UNH alumni, parents of current UNH students, military personnel, senior citizens (ages 60+) and youth (ages 3-12). All current season ticket holders who qualify for special pricing are urged to contact the ticket office before paying their invoice so that a new invoice with updated pricing can be created. Also new this year, season ticket holders will receive four complimentary tickets to a UNH football game of their choice, excluding Homecoming, if they renew before the Aug. 31 deadline. All season ticket holders will also be eligible to win the season ticket holder of the year grand prize. Last year's winners, Marcus and Michelle Santy of Portsmouth, N.H. won a pair of free season tickets for the upcoming season.
