Scouting the Friars: Providence enters Wednesday's game with UNH at 10-10-6 overall and 8-6-5 in Hockey East. After a 3-3 tie with New Hampshire, the Friars are 0-1-3 in their last four games. Providence jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period and held that lead until late in the second period. Both teams took advantage of early power play opportunities early in the third period. The Friars would take the lead with just over ten minutes left in third, but a Scott Pavelski goal with three minutes left sent to game in to OT. Overall, Providence is 2-2-3 over the last seven games. Derek Army, a junior, leads the Friars with 11 goals and 8 assists for 19 points. Ross Mauermann, a sophomore, follows closely behind with 18 points. In net, the freshman Jon Gillies has seen a lot of playing time. He is 10-8-5 with a 2.21 GAA and .919 save percentage. Senior Russ Stein has only played four games this season with a record of 0-2-1 with a 4.05 GAA and .879 save percentage.
Series History vs. Providence: The Wildcats and Friars have met 147 times in the all-time series history dating back to Feb. 12, 1927, with UNH leading the series at 82-51-15. Coach Umile owns a 51-22-8 all-time mark vs. Providence. New Hampshire was unbeaten in 17 games (15-0-2) against the Friars dating back to Feb. 24, 2007 before dropping this year's first meeting 6-5 at the Whittemore Center. UNH had won a series-best 10-straight including a sweep of the last three season series. Dalton Speelman is the active leader in scoring with seven points in seven games. Sophomore Casey DeSmith is 3-0-1 with a 2.17 GAA and a .936 save percentage.

Pavelski Provides Late Goal: Scott Pavelski found the game of the net with just 3:26 left in regulation to lift the 'Cats to the draw. Pavelski had a career-high six shots on goal and has points in back-to-back games for just the second time all season.
Downing Heating Up: Grayson Downing notched a goal and an assist Sunday and has six points in the last four games for New Hampshire.

West Coast Offense: The newly formed top line of Dan Correale, Grayson Downing and Austin Block have been very productive since their formation. The line has six goals in four games (1.5 gpg). Downing and Correale hail from British Columbia, while Block is from California.
Tough "Road" Ahead for the Wildcats; Two Home Games in February: UNH will play the final four games of February on the road starting with PC and BC this week. The 'Cats have four-straight home games in March to end the regular season.
Wildcats Own Nation's 2nd ranked Penalty Kill: UNH continues to be the nation's best team on the penalty kill. The team has killed off 78-86 power play opportunities four short-handed goals in that span. UNH has allowed just six power play goals since the being of November.
Best in the Third, Period.: UNH is outscoring opponents 30-14 in third period this season (+16). The 'Cats 14 goals allowed in the third is seven less than its next closest competition. Additionally, UNH holds a commanding 20-8 (+12) margin in the third period in Hockey East play. The team is 11-0-1 when leading after two periods.
Henrion League Leading 116 Shots: John Henrion has a league-best 116 shots on net. NU's Kevin Roy is second with 114 shots.
Pesce Receives High Marks from Central Scouting: Freshman defenseman Brett Pesce is the highest ranked collegiate player in the CSS Midterm 2013 NHL pre-draft rankings. Pesce is ranked 36th among North American skaters and has been projected as a first or second round draft pick according to some outlets. The highly-skilled blueliner celebrated his 18th birthday in November, while his captain Connor Hardowa celebrated his 24th birthday on the same day.

UNH Wildcat Productions Signs Multi-Sport Deals with WBIN & FOX College Sports: The University of New Hampshire athletic department announced a 15-game multi-sport package to air live on WBIN-TV & FOX College Sports. UNH Wildcat Productions will produce the games along with production partner Pack Network. Wildcat Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports, manages the comprehensive multimedia rights for UNH Athletics. The 15-game package will feature eight men's ice hockey games as well as three men's basketball games and a pair of games each for women's basketball and women's ice hockey. The first broadcast will be Friday, Oct. 12 when the men's hockey team takes on St. Cloud State University (7:30 p.m.). UNH Wildcat Productions broadcasts home games for 12 of its 20 varsity sports via UNHWildcats.tv. All told, UNH will produce over 100 games, including the 15 on WBIN & FCS.

All in the Family: Junior forward Scott Pavelski is the younger brother of Joe Pavelski of the San Jose Sharks while sophomore defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk is the younger brother of former wildcat and current Toronto Maple Leaf forward James van Riemsdyk.
'Cats Selected in the NHL Draft: Two current UNH players have been selected in the National Hockey League draft. Greg Burke (Washington) and Eric Knodel (Toronto) have all been drafted.
UNH on the Radio: In the summer of 1999, the University of New Hampshire Athletic Department formed the "UNH Sports Network" — the largest network ever to broadcast UNH sporting events.In 2009, Wildcats Sports Properties has added WPKX-AM 930 (Rochester) , WZEI-FM 101.5 (Meredith/Concord) and WQSO-FM 96.7 (Portsmouth) as affiliate stations on the Wildcat Sports Network, joining flagship WGIR-AM 610 (Manchester), which was added in 2008. All three stations are part of the Clear Channel family. These three aforementioned stations -- along with WNTK-FM 99.7 (New London), WASR-AM 1420 (Wolfeboro) -- will carry the following: all UNH football & men's hockey broadcasts, a select number of men's basketball, women's basketball and women's hockey broadcasts. Dan Parkhurst will be handling the play-by-play for the sixth-straight season, while Pete Webster will once again be doing the color commentating. Webster has been announcing Wildcat hockey since the 1993-94 season.

'Cats Picked Fourth in Preseason Coaches' Poll: UNH was voted fourth in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was announced Tuesday afternoon at the league's annual media day at Legends Restaurant at the TD Garden. The Wildcats racked up 64 points, including one first place vote, to give them the fourth place standing. New Hampshire has been picked third in the last two preseason polls and finished in the top three in Hockey East five of the last six seasons, including three regular-season titles in that span.
