Men’s Hockey’s Matt Campanale Called Up by New York Islanders
DURHAM, N.H. -- Senior Matt Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team, who signed an amateur tryout (ATO) contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) earlier this week, has been called up to the New York Islanders of the NHL. Campanale is expected to be in the lineup for the Islanders' game at the Boston Bruins on Wednesday, April 6.
Campanale skated in all 39 games with 11 assists. He posted a team-high +25 rating. The senior defenseman was second on the squad in blocks with 48. He helped anchor a stingy UNH defense that allowed 2.51 goals per game overall and 2.19 gpg in Hockey East play.
Campanale and the Wildcats finished the 2010-11 season with a 22-11-6 overall record and qualified for the NCAA's for the 10th-consecutive season. The 'Cats advanced to the Regional Finals for the third-straight season, becoming the only team in the nation with wins in each of the last three years.
