WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Junior goaltender Matt DiGirolamo (Ambler, Pa.) of the fourth-ranked University of New Hampshire men's hockey team (10-3-4, 8-1-2 HE) was named Hockey East Pure Hockey Goalie of the Month for December. The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon by the league office. DiGirolamo, who earned HE Defensive Player of the Week honors on Dec. 6, becomes the first UNH player to earn the league's goalie of the month honor since Brian Foster did so in January 2010.
DiGirolamo was a perfect 3-0-0 in the month with a 1.35 GAA and a .950 save percentage. He opened the month with a shutout against UMass-Lowell, allowed a goal in a 5-1 win over Vermont and closed out the month with 27 saves in a 4-3 win over Maine. Overall DiGirolamo turned away 76 of 80 shots in the month.
UNH returns to action Friday, Jan. 7 against UMass-Lowell. Puck drops at 7 p.m. at Whittemore Center.
