WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Freshman forward Jeff Silengo (Madison, Conn.) of the second-ranked University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week. In addition, the Wildcats garnered Hockey East's Team of the Week for its critical 4-3 overtime win over Maine in Orono. The announcements were made Monday afternoon by the league office.
Silengo scored the first two goals of his collegiate career, including the game-winner at 1:26 of overtime, in a 4-3 win at Maine on Friday night. Silengo's first goal midway through the third period sparked the comeback. Overall, the freshman had three shots on net and was a +2 overall.
The Wildcats' dramatic 4-3 come-from-behind win at sixth-ranked Maine helped propel them to the league's top team honors. Dalton Speelman's (San Jose, Calif.) extra-attacker goal with 18.6 seconds remaining capped off the two-goal comeback, while Silengo's OT game-winner helped UNH end the first half of the season with a 10-2-4 overall record and an 8-1-2 mark in Hockey East. The 'Cats are tied with Boston College atop the league standings, but have two games in hand over the Eagles.
