WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Mike Sislo (Superior, Wis.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was selected as Hockey East Reebok Player of the Month for December. The announcement was made Jan. 2 by the Hockey East league office. Sislo, who was named the National Player of the Week on Dec. 16, becomes the first Wildcat to win Player of the Month honors since Mike Radja in February 2008.

Sislo potted five goals and seven points in just three games lifting the Wildcats to a perfect 3-0-0 mark in December. Sislo’s huge month was powered by a four-goal, six-point performance to close out 2008 in a 9-4 win over Holy Cross. Skating a +5 overall, he scored an insurance goal and helped the Wildcats secure a 2-0 victory over on Dec. 5 to open the month. In the monster game against Holy Cross, Sislo became the first UNH player to have six points in a game since Darren Haydar had six (3g, 3a) on Dec. 28, 2001. Sislo, who potted three of his four goals in the third period, became the first player to tally a hat trick in a period since Lanny Gare Jan. 4, 2003.

The 14th-ranked Wildcats (8-6-3) travel to Hockey East foe Maine on Sunday, Jan. 4 (4 p.m.). The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU. UNH’s next home game is Jan. 10 (7 p.m.) against Massachusetts.
