MANCHESTER, N.H. – The New Hampshire Legends of Hockey (NHLH) announced Friday, May 22 that University of New Hampshire men’s ice hockey head coach Dick Umile was among a group of seven Hall of Fame inductees for 2009. In addition, former Wildcat assistant coach and longtime voice of the team Bob Norton will also be inducted. Details of the Induction Ceremony including the date, time and location will be released at a later date by the NHLH.

Umile recently concluded his 19th season as head coach of the Wildcats. UNH’s all-time winningest coach, he recently surpassed 400 career wins and sits with 444 wins. He has guided New Hampshire to eight-straight trip to the NCAA tournament, Michigan is only other Division I team to qualify for the tournament over the past eight season. In addition, Umile’s Wildcats hold the second-longest active streak of 20-win seasons with 13, the next closest in Hockey East are four teams with one.

Norton served as an assistant under legendary head coach Charlie Holt from 1970-76 and also served as an assistant for the football program during his time in Durham. Norton continued his relationship with UNH serving as a television analyst for several media outlets including New Hampshire Public Television (NHPTV). A friend of the program, he also fills various roles including emcee at several UNH events.

Coaches: the late Paul “Pop” Whalen of Cornish, Walter Tafe Jr of Manchester, and Dick Umile of Portsmouth
Players: Andre Prefontaine of Manchester, Jeff Serowick of Dover, MA; and Jon Leonard of Norrkoping, Sweden
Media: Bob Norton of Concord

Consistent with its mission of preserving the history of ice hockey in New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Legends of Hockey actively solicits historical, hockey-related artifacts for preservation and display to the general public.
