DURHAM, N.H. -- Six former members of the University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey program were honored as part of the 25th-anniversary of Hockey East celebration by being selected as "Top Players". Three were in a group of the league's Top 25 defenders, while three others were among Hockey East's Top 25 forwards. The announcements were made in the week leading up to the Hockey East Championship (March 9-14).Wildcat netminders Mike Ayers, Ty Conklin and Kevin Regan were selected in the Top 25 defenders, while Darren Haydar, Jason Krog and Mark Mowers were part of the top 25 forwards as announced by Hockey East.
Hockey East’s Top 25 forwards and defenders were chosen by a fan vote through the league’s official website – HockeyEastOnline.com - and votes from Hockey East’s 25th Anniversary Committee, which includes representatives from each Hockey East school.
Throughout the season, fans have cast their ballots for Hockey East’s All-Time Team, Top 25 Forwards, and Top 25 Defenders. In addition to these major categories, a number of other ballot questions appeared at regular intervals throughout the year. All fan voting is now complete.
