WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Freshman forward James vanRiemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month for January. The announcement was made on Friday morning by the league office.
vanRiemsdyk returned to the UNH lineup two games into the month, but was one of the most productive players in the league during the month. The freshman forward potted four goals and three assists (seven points) in just five games. He had a goal and an assist in each game of a weekend home-and-home sweep of No. 5 Massachusetts. He tallied a goal in UNH's loss to Dartmouth and closed out the month with the game-winning goal and an assist in UNH's 5-3 win over Boston University. vanRiemsdyk was the HE Rookie of the Week on Jan. 14.
The seventh-ranked Wildcats (15-7-1, 11-4-1 HE) travels to Hockey East foe Vermont (6-9-7, 5-5-5) for a single game on Friday night. Puck drops at 8 p.m. at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast live on CSTV.
