WAKEFIELD, MASS. – Freshman forward Paul Thompson (Derry, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month for November. The announcement was made on Dec. 4 by the league office.

The freshman forward, who garnered HE Rookie of the Week on Nov. 19, becomes the first Wildcat to win the award since Kevin Regan captured the honor back in February, 2005.

Thompson had a breakout month in November. The freshman forward had nine points (5g-4a-9p) in eight games for the Wildcats. Thompson opened the month with a goal and an assist in a win at Northeastern. He had the game-tying goal in a 2-2 tie with UMass-Lowell. Thompson notched the primary assist on the game-winning goal in a win over Boston College and had a breakout game in an overtime win at Providence. Against the Friars, Thompson tallied a career-high five points with a hat trick and two assists. He tallied the game-tying and game-winning goals. Overall, Thompson skated a +3 in the month and led the Wildcats to a 4-2-0 mark. UNH was 3-0-1 when Thompson tallied a point during the month of November.

The No. 7-ranked Wildcats (8-3-1) will face Massachusetts (6-3-5) on Saturday night at Mullins Center in Amherst, Mass.  at 7 p.m.
